US News and World Report’s annual ranking is out, leaving a trace of trends, showing growth of cost, subject area and class size in several universities. While some universities ranks are rising to the occasion, others are falling behind. Find out which schools have shown improvements and in what areas.
Cost:
- On average, each school’s tuition rose by $2,000.
- However, no school’s cost rose as much as UC –Berkeley’s out-of-state tuition, which jumped from 25,064 to 38,140 this year.
Business:
- Both Harvard and UChicago’s business sectors have faced measurable decreases in rank.
- However, UPenn, Berkeley, Cornell and CMU are getting stronger in undergraduate business
Engineering:
- Undergrad Engineering at Stanford, Cornell, Berkeley, CMU and Georgia Tech are jumping up in the ranks.
- Biomedical Engineering undergrad at UPenn is making great strides.
Law:
- Duke’s Law School is becoming more and more successful, especially in Environmental Law.
Nursing:
- Vast improvements in the area of nursing are taking place at Duke, Columbia and UPenn.
- Johns Hopkins has greatly broadened the scope of their top healthcare departments, especially within policy and nursing.
Student Population:
- UIUC grew 1/3 in size
- Wisconsin – Madison accepted 5,000 more undergraduate students this year.
Rank / Exclusivity:
- Stanford, UPenn and MIT became drastically even MORE exclusive.
- Washington University St. Louis increased acceptance by 2%, and is one of the ONLY top schools to increase, rather than decrease acceptance.
